Grand Lobby at Maybank Tower:
Inspired by Tradition, Designed for the Future

Maybank Tower, Grand Lobby

Client: Maybank
Location: Maybank Tower, Ground Floor, Battery Road, Singapore

Introduction

The Maybank Tower on Battery Road, Singapore, is renowned for its prime location, offering stunning views of the Fullerton Hotel and the Singapore River. In 2024, the original lobby underwent a full transformation to reflect Maybank’s evolving identity and functional needs. MGroup was tasked with reimagining the space, modernising it to align with Maybank’s core values.

Heritage Aesthetics

Drawing from Maybank’s Malaysian heritage, the redesign is inspired by the wau (kite) motif. A gold and black corporate palette reinforces the brand’s identity while adding a sense of sophistication. The new entrance features a motorised sliding door in golden metal, leading to a grand lobby where a large digital poster enhances branding.

Inside, full-height glass walls maximise natural light and expand the space, offering unobstructed river views. The layout balances openness and function, integrating ATM kiosks for customer convenience. A key highlight is the new M Space café, designed for relaxation and events, with both indoor and alfresco seating. A grand piano and striking tree columns add warmth and a biophilic touch.

Our vision for Maybank Tower’s lobby was to craft a space that seamlessly blends heritage with modernity—where functionality meets artistry, and every design element tells a story of innovation, identity, and warmth.

Imaginative Icons

Tree-like columns, featuring perforated panels and custom pendant lights, simulate clouds in the sky. A preserved moss wall and natural wood elements enhance the nature-inspired aesthetic. A 16-panel media wall adds visual interest and versatility. Behind the moss wall, a cosy meeting room echoes organic motifs.

Adding to the lobby's interplay of light and space, custom lighting design by Yusuke Hattori instils a sense of harmony by unifying all the elements into a cohesive spatial experience. Inspired by the Japanese concept of komorebi, the design mimics the effect of dappled light that filters through tree leaves, creating a serene atmosphere by day and a soft, inviting glow in the evening.
